most popular curses build goes around these lines:
Spiteful Spirit
Arcane Echo
Suffering
Parasitic Bond
optional
optional
Signet of Lost Souls
Res
however the Curses line give you a lot of options for dealing with a variaty of foes, my suggestion is to be creative, trial and error is your best bet until you become more familiar with creating builds, by than you will know which skills and skill combinations work and which dont and it will be easier for you to alternate builds.

i have a AoE damage curse build that i have a good time running
spitefull spirit
reckless haste
accumulated pain
epidemic
necrosis
desicrate enchantments
defile enchantments
sunspear res sig
if you don't have the sunspear skills, you can rplace necrosis with anything you want.. the key is the AoE damage from SS, spreading accumulated pain condition, and the enchant spikes.

You should try [skill=text]Signet of Sorrow[/skill] at 14 or 15 soul reaping(if your not using back fire or empathy most curses builds have that)
It's like a 75 damage per second dot, OD's many other necro skills.
As SS works best on groups of foes, it and Mark of Pain are wonderful for generating corpses near the target.
P.S. because it doesn't have a visual area effect, like firestorm, often players won't realize that they need to sidestep, mob's don't realize it at all.

do you also 'exploit' the corpse when using the signet? and does the signet itself 'exploit' a corpse? It doesn't sound too bad, worth a try.

nope you can spam it your target stands near a corpse. if the corpse is exploited you don't get the instant recharge though

my typical build is this one:
[skill=text]Awaken The Blood[/skill] [skill=text]Arcane Echo[/skill] [skill=text]Spiteful Spirit[/skill] [skill=text]Reckless Haste[/skill] [skill=text]Price of Failure[/skill] [skill=text]Blood Ritual[/skill] plus a rez and then whatever else you feel you need. I usually take Sunspear Rebirth Signet and Necrosis.
Spiteful Spirit isn't the only good Curses elite. Its just the most effective for general PvE. [skill=text]Corrupt Enchantment[/skill] is pretty much a must have(for Monk and Derv heavy areas) though [skill=text]Lingering Curse[/skill] can fill its shoes in some cases. [skill=text]Feast of Corruption[/skill] is excellent but really annoying to capture.

I had a totally out of the blue idea; which I should definitely test it before I look stupid posting it.
But I'm both lazy and not the brightest spark, so here goes:
Whenever you gain max health it's added to the beginning of the beginning of your health bar, adding dilled health.
When losing max health you lose full peaces of the bar, whenever this would reduce your max health to leas than 1 your health is reset to 1
so reducing max health is similar to dealing armor ignoring damage, except you won't actually kill the foe.
Attributes:
Curses: 12+4
Beast mastery: 10
Soul Reaping: 6+X
Blood magic: 6+3(and a +20% enchantment weapon upgrade)
[skill]Symbiosis[/skill]
Cast it somewhere safe, it will probably help your team stay alive too.
But it will boost the health of enchanted foes, and that is what I'm after.
Before the spike use
[skill]Awaken the Blood[/skill]
It will allow Symbiosis to benefit you and we need the extra curses for the spike.
use
[skill]Desecrate Enchantments[/skill]
[skill]Defile Enchantments[/skill]
and
[skill]Pain of Disenchantment[/skill]
in whatever order you'd like
Not everyone uses superior runes, so well need about 480 damage, to make sure.
That happens (using the above skills at 18 curses) if the foe has 3 or more enchantment's on them
I'm not sure if Desecrate and Defile, deal additional damage to each creature depending on the enchantments on that creature, or depending on the enchantments on all the affected creatures.
In the second case it will be much easier if there are enchanted foes near your target.
That can be Dervishes and assassins, if the enemy monk uses enchantments it can be pretty much any profession.
Now so far only the damage from [skill=text]Desecrate Enchantments[/skill] and [skill=text]Defile Enchantments[/skill] with 3 enchantments that should be 280 damage, the enchantments would grant that foe 330 additional max health form [skill=text]Symbiosis[/skill].
So that foe should not be at less than 50% of max health.
Use:
[skill]Gaze of Contempt[/skill]
That foe loses their 330 additional max health, [skill=text]Pain of Disenchantment[/skill] fires and deals 3*69=207 damage.
That foe loses 537 health in 1 second;
while it was above ~60% max health just the sec ago, hopefully the monk won't have done too much because of that.
Because the reducing of the HP happened before the damage from [skill=text]Pain of Disenchantment[/skill] was inflicted, so that foe should be dead now.
After a few seconds most of your skills should be recharged, if you had a +20% enchantments weapon upgrade, [skill=text]Awaken the Blood[/skill] will still be active and you can repeat it all again; this time using:
[skill]Rend Enchantments[/skill]
This leaves room for one free skill of your choice.
It's just a random idea, plz don't be to harsh.

A few tips for SS necros:
1) Avoid bad synergies. Just read the skill descriptions and they are easy to see,
Example:
[skill]Insidious parasite[/skill] does excellent short work of one monster when combined with spiteful, but fall short when combined with price or reckless since it requires you hit.
2) good synergies:
Price/reckless on the same target = pwnt.
Price/reckless/Spiteful on same target = Lawlpwnt.
MArk of pain/barbs = pwnt. good way to make sure all foes are taking some sort of extra damage
Price/Well of darkness = pwnt ( requires some practice to get it right though )
Insidious / spitefull = pwnt.
3) Obligatory:
- Bring some kind of cover hex like suffering or parasitic bond.
- Bring some form of enchantment removal if you know the mission needs it.
- Faintheartedness , Shadow of fear , and meekness can be used to remove pressure from your monks. Slower attack speed destroys alot of monster DPS, as many of them use only a few skills and get by with just a constant basic attack.

I usually try to avoid that, mark of pain is wasted if the subject is insta-spiked to death by minions, but thats details really.
Usually I take 2 ranger heroes + pet and use their target button on the target with mark on it. With 4 physicals wailing on him the yellow numbers fly off your screen, especially when combined with 25% IAS from tigers fury. In the mean time I merrily kill the rest.

In PvE, a curse necro's staple is these 3 skills:
Barbs
Necrosis
Spiteful Spirit
Use it in conjunction with a minion master hero and you will pretty much blow through anything. If there isn't enough bodies for minion masters, bring your own bodies with heroes that has ranger as secondary. The pets will serve as corpses for you to get started.
Rest of the build, I would add:
Signet of Lost Souls
Insidious Parasite
Enfeebling Blood (pwnzor)
For the last 2 slots, there are a variety of things you can add:
Arcane Echo - double anything you want - generally not required.
Backfire - if you are heading into a caster heavy area or a caster end boss.
Reckless Haste - if you are heading into melee heavy area.
Wards against Melee/Elements - for GWEN if you want to help out in defence.
Method:
Use Barbs on a prime target and requests all ur heroes/minions to attack that target. The target will be destroyed in seconds. Just watch the numbers fly once the minions get started on the target. You can assist by attacking that target with Necrosis but most of the time i don't even bother and try to save the mana. Barbs just destroys the target.
Vs Melee - Barbs + Spiteful Spirit. Necrosis if you like but I'll save the mana.
Vs Casters/Healers - Barbs + Necrosis. Take Mesmer as secondary and spike high life casters like caster bosses with backfire.
After you have barb/ss/necrosis your target, hover your fingers over Signet of Lost Souls and suck the mana out of them and repeat the entire sequence.
If a melee attacks you specifically cast insidious parasite on him and watch it beat it head against a brick wall. If you are swarmed by melee especially in close range. You should be smiling. Enfeebling Blood will neutered them all. Then start on them with Barbs and SS ...
Once you get started .... you should just roll over everything.
